SYNTHOGENDER

Coined by Max/Blue

What Is It?

Synthogender is a xenogender for those who align with masculinity in the way that it is modeled by androids and robots. It embraces a sort of “synthetic masculinity”; aka, the feeling that you have carefully curated your masc-leaning presentation yet it is somehow artificial and/or not inherently linked to the way you experience gender (similar to how androids might process/understand it).

Who Can Use It?

Synthogender isn’t specifically about identifying as an android/ nonhuman/ otherkin/ etc, but anyone is free to adopt the label if it resonates with them (especially other ND folks)! All pronouns welcome.

The greenish-gray stripe represents a connection to androids/robots, the light teal stripe represents an unconventional attachment to masculinity, and the white stripe represents the nonbinary/trans umbrella.
The binary code, when translated, reads "synthogender".

Note, 8/8/21: this is the updated version of the synthogender flag. The original, posted earlier today, had 5 stripes and was modeled after the trans flag, but it was brought to my attention that it was similar to the demiboy flag. I made some alterations to hopefully clear up any confusion!

Why Did You Make It?

I created "synthogender" after a deep dive into the multitude of neo/xenogenders, in which I couldn't find one that exactly expressed how I feel. As someone who is autistic and nonbinary, gender is very nebulous and hard to explain, so I came up with a label that better describes my specific relationship with gender and masculinity. Transmasc and nonbinary are umbrella terms that I will continue to use since they are accurate to my experience, synthogender is just one step beyond that.
